Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Range Satinder Singh recently addressed the media personnel and shared information about the arrest of people in the illicit liquor case, which has resulted in many deaths in the Majitha constituency of Amritsar

While speaking to the media, DIG Satinder Singh said that 16 youths have been arrested so far, with two more yet to be apprehended.

The accused who were caught have been presented in court. Among them, 16 were young men and one was a woman, who was identified as Ninder Kaur. The court has ordered remand for them for two days.

In recent days, 23 people have died due to the illicit liquor in the Majitha constituency of Amritsar. According to the reports, there are around 18 accused in the case. However, police officials have arrested 16 of them, and continuous raids are underway to nab the remaining two.

DIG Satinder stated that this is a highly condemnable incident, and as soon as the police received information, they acted quickly. He further outlined that the affected youngsters were hospitalized, and informative announcements were made in the village, urging anyone who had consumed the liquor to contact the police.

Notably, some of the hospitalized people have called the police, and the case was registered with immediate effect.

By 2 am that night, five youths had been arrested, and it was discovered that a youth from Harsha Cheena was involved.

Further investigation revealed that 50 liters of liquor were being supplied from a particular source. A raid was conducted on that factory, some people were arrested, and it came to light that an order for 600 liters of liquor had been placed from Delhi. This company is based in Delhi, and the consignment was intercepted near Patiala. One of the accused was supposed to sell that liquor.

While outlining this incident, DIG Satinder Singh mentioned, “A team was sent to Delhi, where two youths were arrested. So far, cases have been registered against 18 youths, and 16 have been arrested. The police will seek remand by presenting them in court. Murder charges have been filed against them.
