Man desecrates Sri Gutka Sahib near Golden Temple; Accused caught & handed over to Police

In an attempt to disturb law and order, a man living near the Golden Temple in Amritsar tore the pages of Sri Gutka Sahib outside the Sri Guru Arjan Niwas Sarai built in the complex late on Monday night and disrespected it. According to the information received, the man was swiftly overpowered by members of the sangat (devotees) present at the site and handed over to the police. The accused is currently in custody. Sri Gutka Sahib's sacrilege comes days ahead of the Operation Bluestar Anniversary on June 6, 2025. 

ADCP City-3 Jasroop Kaur Baath confirmed the arrest and stated that a thorough investigation is underway. "Given the sensitive nature of the coming days and the martyrdom events currently being observed at Sri Darbar Sahib, a heavy police presence has been ensured in the area. Despite this, such a grave incident has occurred,” she said.

Baath further said, "We have registered a case and our teams are interrogating the accused strictly. Action is being taken as per the law.”

The arrested accused has yet to reveal why he carried out such a heinous act. 

Notably, Amritsar has been put on high alert. Ghallughara Day is observed annually on June 6 as the commemoration of Operation Blue Star. Thousands of devotees arrive to mark the anniversary of Operation Blue Star. The authorities have intensified surveillance around all entry points to the Golden Temple complex.
