Strongly condemning the shocking murder of president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) local unit Vikas Bagga, the Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar directly blamed the state government for this "targeted killing" aimed at vitiating the peace of Punjab ahead of Lok Sabha Polls to reap political benefit.

"The timing and attempt of those behind this killing is to foment communal strife in Punjab," Jakhar said here after visiting the bereaved family members while underlining the grave apathy on part of the state government towards its duty to protect lives of citizens by providing law and order.

Bhagwant Mann regime has failed miserably to protect lives of citizens with murderers and gangsters roaming free with no fear of law in their minds, Jakhar said while demanding immediate arrest of culprits to expose the real face of those who hatched this conspiracy to destabilize Punjab.

Reminding the state dispensation of its duty to provide law and order, the State BJP President said that it is not the first such incident where people have been targeted and killed for their faith and belief.

There have been several such shocking killings in the last 2 years and this government is still in slumber, Jakhar said urging the people to not fall prey to designs of those wanting to divide us on political and religious lines.

Asking the Chief Minister to explain government inaction and callousness towards the family of the slain leader, Jakhar said he would himself keep sitting on dharna to demand immediate action against the culprits of this murder.

Sharing his condolences with the family, Jakhar said the whole of Punjab is with them in this hour of need and he would ensure justice to them. CM could have directed his administration to at least visit the family and share their grief, Jakhar said.

"It is shocking while everyone in Punjab is celebrating Khalsa Saajna Diwas which encompasses Guru Sahib's message of religious and social unity amongst communities, some nefarious conspiracy by vested political minds is afoot to disturb Punjab's social fabric to garner political benefit," Jakhar pointed out.
