India Manohar Lal Khattar Manohar Lal Khattar Resignation Reason

In a massive development, Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday resigned from the Chief Ministerial post of Haryana. Manohar Lal Khattar's resignation came when India is all set to go for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Not only this, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar's resignation comes in the backdrop of farmers' attempt to march to Delhi over their multiple demands. On Monday, multiple reports suggested that Khattar will resign from his post as the BJP is mulling to field him for Lok Sabha Elections. Now, the question arises why did the BJP-JJP alliance break in Haryana, or Manohar Lal Khattar's resignation reason? Below is what we know so far-

Why did the BJP-JJP alliance break in Haryana?

As per reports, the JJP was demanding 1 to 2 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, whereas BJP's central leadership and state organization are in favor of contesting all 10 seats themselves. This is the possible reason for the breakdown. CM Manohar Lal Khattar reached Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh on Tuesday and tendered collective resignation along with the cabinet. There are also discussions about changing the CM face in Haryana.

JJP National General Secretary and Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala met BJP National President JP Nadda in Delhi on Monday. After this, CM Manohar Lal Khattar called an emergency meeting in Chandigarh on Monday night and again at 11 am on Tuesday. All the ministers, MLAs, and independent MLAs supporting the government participated in it.

For the unversed, there are 90 assembly seats in Haryana. These include 41 BJP, 30 Congress, 10 JJP, 1 INLD, 1 HLP and 7 independents. 46 seats are required for the majority. Currently, the BJP-JJP coalition government consists of 41 BJP members, 10 JJP members, and one independent Ranjit Chautala government. If JJP breaks the alliance, BJP has the support of 41, 7 independents and one Halopa MLA. In such a situation, the BJP is getting 3 more seats than the majority figure of 46.
