The film begins with the introduction of Madurai’s Meenakshi Sundareshwara temple, dedicated to Meenakshi (a form of Goddess Parvati) and Sundeshwara (a form of Lord Shiva), and leads us to the central characters, Meenakshi (Sanya) and Sundareshwar (Abhimanyu), whose parents are looking for an apt match for them.
Sundareshwar and his parents are off to see a suitable girl for him, but they end up at Meenakshi’s home due to a misunderstanding. When they realize their mistake, her Thatha/grandfather (Shivkumar Subramaniam) draws parallels with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, saying this could be their destiny, even though until the previous scene, it looks like they don’t have too much in common. For example, she loves movies and catches ‘Superstar Rajinikanth’s new release ‘first-day first show, while he doesn’t like movies and they put him to sleep.

However, soon after Meenakshi and Sundareshwar’s wedding, he learns of a job interview the following day. This opportunity takes Sundar to Bangalore, but he can’t take his newly-wedded wife there so he can concentrate on building his career as this break comes a year after the completion of his engineering studies.

Sundar’s move from Madurai to Bangalore sets his long-distance marriage with Meenakshi into motion. As in any other long-distance relationship, this recently married couple goes through more downs than ups — the joy and laughter they share initially quickly turns into melancholy and heartbreak.

Sanya Malhotra does a good job of essaying the various shades of Meenakshi and is a joy to watch for the way she performs her scenes, including those to which she doffs her hat to Rajinikanth. This is Abhimanyu’s (Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota) second film and the young talented actor seems to be making an interesting choice of roles and films. He keeps his Sundar subtle and effective, never straying out of character. The two add to the chemistry between their characters with their earnest performances
