Hollywood actress Melissa Barrera was fired from the next Scream film sequel Scream 7 after its makers said her pro-Palestinian social media posts were antisemitic. The star has posted regularly about the Israel-Gaza conflict, including resharing one post that accused Israel of "genocide and ethnic cleansing". In one of her posts, Melissa wrote, "I too come from a colonized country..Palestine WILL be free.. they tried to bury us, they didn't know we were seeds." After Melissa Barrera firing, reports suggest that she gained over 400,000 followers on Instagram within 48 hours.
After being fired from Scream 7, Melissa Barrera took to her Instagram and wrote, "First and foremost I condemn Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people...As a latina, a proud Mexicana, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need."
For the unversed, Melissa Barrera played the character of Sam Carpenter in 2022’s 'Scream,' alongside Jenna Ortega, who is also not returning to the franchise for the seventh installment.
