Unbelievable! Doctors save woman pierced with 18-inch iron rod through chest

BMC doctors have saved the life of a labourer woman who pierced her chest with an 18-inch iron rod after she fell from the upper floor of the construction site.

On Saturday, a team of doctors have performed a miraculous surgery. BMC doctors have saved the life of a labourer woman who fell from the construction site and an 18-inch rod was inserted in her chest.

The incident took place on June 19, when the 29-year-old woman was working with her husband on a construction site. She was working on an upper floor of the under-construction building in the Vikhroli suburb of north-eastern Mumbai.

She suddenly fell from the building onto an iron rod, the rod was pierced through the chest and was jutted out of the back. She was then spotted in the pool of blood. 

At site workers quickly took the injured woman to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s Rajawadi Hospital, where she was provided the first-aid and later the doctors transferred her to the LTMG Hospital in Sion, for further treatment. 

As this was a critical situation, therefore, the team of doctors decided to perform emergency surgery to remove the rod and save the woman. The surgery was successful, later the woman was wheeled out of the operation theatre and was shifted to the ward. She was kept under observation for a week. Finally, the doctors announced that she was out of danger on Saturday (June 26).

This delicate case was handled by a team of experts. The team comprised of Vineet Kumar, Ranjeet Kamble, Parth Patel, Kuntal Surana, Tajahwini Jambotkar, and other paramedics. 

The dean of LTMG Hospital, Dr Mohan Joshi said, “The big challenge was, owing to the penetrating rod, it was not possible to make her lie on the operating table. After a lot of effort, she was placed on a cushion and the complicated, three-hour-long surgery was performed.”

The team of LTMG Hospital gathered praised by everyone. The top civic officers like Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani and Deputy Municipal Commissioner D. Kshirsagar also lauded the efforts of the team which included medical and para-medical staff for carrying out such a life-saver procedure.
