The 70th Miss Universe beauty pageant took
place at Eilat, Israel has been won by India’s Harnaaz Sandhu. Harnaaz has
brought the crown back home after 21 years. Before Harnaaz, only two Indian
beauties have clinched the crown – Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in
2000.
A video of her winning the crown is
circulating over the internet. After winning the crown, the Miss Universe 2021
screamed, "Chakh De Fatte India."
The reigning Miss Universe was born on
3 March 2000 in Chandigarh in a Sikh family. She did her schooling at
Shivalik School in Chandigarh and did higher Education at Government College
Girls Chandigarh. Her father's name is Paramjit Sandhu and her mother's name is
Ravinder Kaur Sandhu. Her mother is a Gynecologist in Government Hospital,
Chandigarh. Talking about her mother, she revealed that she is a great source
of inspiration for her.
Harnaaz wanted to become a judge and also
wants to make a career in modeling and films. She has even starred in films
like Yaara Diyan Poo Baran and Bai Ji Kuttange. Also, she is a strong advocate
for women's rights and draws her inspiration from Priyanka Chopra.
It was not so easy for Harnaaz to reach this
title. There was a time when she became a victim of depression. She shared
that, in recent times, she was hospitalized due to ulcers in her stomach and at
that time she came across the upcoming events LIVA Miss Diva 2021. She felt
that it is time to do something in her life and overcome her situation. Her
family was a constant support for her. Her father used to call Harnaaz ‘Punjab
Ki Sherni.’ They always encouraged her, which helped her to overcome depression
and resulted in winning the beauty pageant.
