Taking lessons from the past, the Haryana Government on Sunday suspended mobile internet & SMS services in Nuh district for the next 24 hours. Nuh internet shutdown will start at 6 pm on Sunday and will end on Monday at the same time. Notably, the government has suspended the bulk SMS services as well. Nuh Internet suspension's decision has been taken ahead of the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra that was marred by violence last year. Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi reportedly passed the order.
The official release reads, "... there is an apprehension of causing tension, annoyance, agitation, damage of public and private property and disturbance of public peace and tranquility in the district Nuh.."
The internet & SMS services shutdown order was given "to stop the spread of misinformation and rumours" through social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter (X), etc. In the meantime, the Nuh Police reportedly said tight security arrangements have been made to ensure that the Yatra passes off smoothly.
For the unversed, two home guards were killed and at least 15 others, including several policemen, were injured on July 31 last year as a mob in Haryana's Nuh district tried to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, pelting stones and setting cars on fire.
