Mohali, once admired for its beauty and planned infrastructure is now struggling with a growing problem that is traffic jams .
The roads become chokepoints for commuters during peak hours in the morning and evening. Significant improvement for road infrastructure was to be done to address the increasing traffic congestion.
The major area which gets clog are Knowledge City Sector 81, Phase 8 Industrial Area, and the roads which connects Mohali with Zirakpur and Kharar.
The reasons of traffic Jams in the planned City are, the number of vehicles, there is a steady rise in vehicle registration, according to Indian express in 2024, 4,88,884 vehicles were registered.
The two lane road of Mohali, carries approx 100 passengers at a time because preference for private vehicles over public transportation is a key factor contributing to the traffic bottleneck.
Why people in Mohali are not using Public Transportation?
The public transportation in the Mohali is hardly seen, no government buses are active in the city and private autorickshaw, cabs charge alot. The black road made up of concrete, gravel are now filled with white cars and red traffic lights.
The big trucks are the big bottleneck of traffic jams, in the peak office and school hours big trucks run too, which troubles every commuter passing by.
