The man who chopped a 31-year-old woman on Saturday morning in the middle of the road was arrested on the same day. On Saturday morning, a 31-year-old woman named Baljinder Kaur was going to office when a masked youth hiding behind a tree attacked her out of nowhere with sword in Phase 5 Mohali. The masked youth continued to attack Baljinder Kaur wit his sword until she became unconscious.  Baljinder was working in the call center of a private bank for the last 9 years. It is said that Mohali woman Baljinder Kaur's murder is linked to love affair. However, the family members reportedly say that they do not know anything about this. They have never come across such a thing before.

Now, the arrested youth has been identified as Sukhchain Singh, Sukhchain Singh is a resident of Samrala, Ludhiana. As per City SP Harveer Singh Atwal quoted by a news daily, Sukhchian Singh works at a petrol pump. Sukhchain and Baljinder have known each other for the last four-five years. Sukhchain wanted to marry Baljinder, but she was repeatedly refused to marry him. Due to this enmity, Sukhchain attacked her.

According to the incident recorded in the CCTV camera, 5 girls were coming from Morinda towards Phase 5. The masked youth was standing hiding under a tree. As soon as the girls came near the tree, the youth took out his sword. After this he attacked Baljinder Kaur. Seeing this, the other girls started running away from there. Baljinder also tried to run away, but the youth pushed her back and kept attacking her.

Seeing the youth attacking, a person riding a scooter stopped, but seeing the sword in the youth's hand, he too could not help the girl. After this, the girl fell unconscious on the ground.

Punjab Women Commission Raj Lali Gill has also taken cognizance of the matter. Gill said, "A woman was going to her office and when she got down from the bus, she was attacked by a man with a sword...The man had done something similar 7-8 months ago. He was given a warning and was also punished...The police have caught him...The woman has died...I have given my contact number to the woman's parents..."
