It was an eventful first day for a maid in Mohali as she was viciously attacked by her employer’s 2 pitbulls. Rakhee, who hails from UP, arrived at owner Prakash Singh’s house as was imminently attacked by the dogs. She has sustained injuries on various sections of her body, though most notably, she had half her face bitten clean off by the animal. She had to admitted to the hospital due to the severe nature of her injuries.

She reportedly entered the house at 4:00 P.M. to start her first day on the job, while the family was out attending a wedding function, when she was attacked by the 2 pet pitbulls that the owner had kept off their leash. The dogs were roaming freely in the house promptly jumped on Rakhee as she entered. She started to call for help but was unfortunately wasn’t heard for quite some time, following which a passerby arrived to assist with the situation and get the dogs off of her.

Rakhee reportedly had to struggle for nearly one hour before anyone responded to her cries for help. During which she sustained multiple injuries on her cheeks, neck, arms and legs. Seeing her struggling a passerby threw stones to get the dog off of her face, which was already bitten off by the dog at this point.

Rakhee’s husband informs that they hail from Uttar Pradesh and that he works as labour. They rented a house in Mander Nagar, and that it was Rakhee’s first day of work in a new house. She is currently in the hospital undergoing treatment for the sustained injuries.

Attacks by hostile dog breeds are not uncommon, so much so that a special permit is required for the ownership of specific breeds of dogs, with the government even contemplating an outright ban on those breeds. Rakhee is the most recent victim of numerous incidents recorded where negligent owners were the cause of bodily injuries other people.  Most recently, the Delhi high court asked Central government to make a decision regarding banning the license for owning dangerous dogs.
