Shiv Sena which openly flaunts its Hindutva agenda around the nation, had to go through a reality check. A girl named Karishma Bhosale from Mumbai’s Mankhurd area stood up against public nuisance in the name of Azan near her residence.

Karishma shared her ordeal while dealing with the mosque authorities while urging them to lower the volume of the loudspeaker allegedly installed near her window. Karishma alleges that the mosque authorities have installed a loudspeaker near her window which is creating inconvenience to her.

In 2017, the Madras High Court today observed that freedom of religion is a fundamental right that cannot be interfered with but stressed that the Supreme Court guidelines on sound system used by mosques for giving prayer calls should be followed.

In May 2020, Allahabad High Court allowed Azaan in mosques without using any amplifier or loudspeaker.

After the video of Karishma went viral, Mumbai Police sent a notice to Karishma's mother. Karishma received a warning from the Mumbai police. As per details that are now being shared widely, a notice was sent to her mother Varsha Bhosale, narrating the situation and pointing out that it was inappropriate to visit the mosque, rather than coming to the police with any grievance that she may have had. As the notice put it, Karishma going to the Masjid and requesting them to lower the volume could have in turn caused a law and order situation.

The two have been asked to abide by the rules, failing which, the letter said that they could be booked for going against the notice they'd been sent.
