Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the Governor of Nairobi, Kenya, Mike Sonko is distributing alcohol along with food items in the care packages that are being distributed to the people in need.

According to Mike Sonko, alcohol is killing the novel coronavirus, therefore, it is being used as a throat sanitizer.

In a media briefing held last week, he confirmed that the Covid-19 care packages being distributed in Nairobi consist of small bottles of cognac, Hennessy.

However, WHO released a statement on the same day saying that alcohol does not protect against the novel coronavirus. The release stated, "Alcohol consumption is associated with a range of communicable and noncommunicable diseases and mental health disorders, which can make a person more vulnerable to Covid-19."
