On July 1, India observes "National Doctor's Day." It is marked to commemorate Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, a physician and West Bengal's second chief minister, on his birth and death anniversaries. 

This day, which was first observed in 1991, honours the contribution of medical professionals who have generously helped us in our time of need and sacrificed a great deal for our health. 

Doctors and paramedic staff have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They put in continuous effort to aid the nation in its virus defence. 

History of National Doctor's Day

The subject emphasizes the importance of doctors' contributions to their commitment to helping others. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) in India celebrated National Doctors' Day for the first time on July 1, 1991. 

Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, one of India's most prominent doctors, was born on July 1 and passed away on July 1. He served as West Bengal's second chief minister as well. On February 4, 1961, he was given the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in the nation; as a result, the day is commemorated in his honour.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked medical professionals and remarked that they are essential to saving lives and promoting global health. 

In a tweet and video montage praising doctors, Modi wrote, "Doctors Day greetings to all hardworking doctors who play a key role in saving lives and making our planet healthier."

In his Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about Doctor's Day while remembering Dr BC Roy. PM Modi remarked, "We shall observe National Doctors Day on July 1. We must honour the medical professionals who worked tirelessly to prevent India from falling victim to COVID-19's problems."
