
Disgruntled Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu and PunjabCongress in-charge Harish Rawat on Friday met party high command Sonia Gandhi at10 Janpath. The meeting lasted for nearly an hour.
Navjot Singh Sidhu came out but did not speak to themedia. When Rawat came out, he told the media that he had submitted his reportto the party high command. The verdict will come soon. However, he refrainedfrom saying anything.
Rawat said that as soon as he gets to know about herdecision regarding Punjab Congress, he'll let media all know.
The meeting comes in the wake of speculation that Sidhuis likely to be made the state president, which has upset Chief MinisterAmarinder Singh, sources said.
The Congress is mulling an idea of appointing a Dalit andan upper caste Hindu as the working presidents.
The names of Raj Kumar Verka and Santokh Chaudhary arebeing considered for the working president post as both are Dalits and cancounter the Akali Dal-BSP alliance impact.
While another from the Hindu community is to balance theequation, Vijay Inder Singla could be appointed as another working president.Not only this, the party is mulling to reshuffle cabinet in the state ahead ofthe Assembly polls and give more representation to the Dalit community in thestate.
Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat on Thursday hadsaid it may take some time but to balance the equation in the state, the partyis working on the formula to appoint Sidhu in a prominent position, whileasserting that Amarinder Singh has already said that he will abide by the highcommand's decision.
"The party is working on a formula to appoint twoworking presidents and elections will be fought under the leadership of theChief Minister," said Rawat.
It is learned that the Congress High Command has takenthe whole matter seriously following the developments in the Punjab Congresssince last evening and the news of meetings between Sidhu and Capt AmarinderSingh's camps. That is why this morning Sidhu was invited to Delhi by SoniaGandhi. It is believed that after this a major decision could be taken in thecase of Punjab Congress.
