The political crisis that erupted after the resignation of Punjab PCC president, Navjot Singh Sidhu is likely to end today. Navjot Sidhu had a meeting with CM Charanjit Singh Channi at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh. Working State Congress President Kuljit Nagra, Cabinet Minister Pargat Singh and Harish Choudhary were also present in the meeting.

Congress leaders who were part of the meeting said that Sidhu will continue to remain in the post. The Punjab cabinet will meet on October 4, they informed.

It is being learnt from sources that Sidhu and Channi meeting has been successful and that Navjot Sidhu will continue to serve as Punjab Congress President.

Sidhu, meanwhile had opened a front against the party as he stands firmly against the appointment of DGP IPS Sahota and AG APS Deol.

“DGP IPS Sahota was head of SIT investigating Beadbi case under Badal Govt, he wrongfully indicted two Sikh youth for sacrilege & gave a clean chit to Badals,” claimed Sidhu, adding that he and Congress ministers had assured the victims of support in 2018.

Sidhu also linked an old video, dated May 11, 2021, that featured him meeting “Rupinder Singh and Jasvinder Singh, the innocent victims of Police brutality under Badal regime”

Although these tweets indicate that there is no space for an agreement, CM Channi has however convinced Sidhu. It will be worth seeing if CM Channi now withdraws his decision over AG and DGP appointments.

Moreover, Sidhu's move did not go well with party high command as they have been adamant about his attitude and clearly stated ‘his demands will not be fulfilled.’

Sunil Jakhar, the former PPCC Chief and who was also a frontrunner to replace Capt Amarinder Singh, before Charanjit Channi’s name was announced today in a tweet said, “Enough is enough. Put an end to attempts to undermine the authority of CM time and again”.

“The aspersions being cast on selection of AG & DGP is actually questioning the integrity/competence of CM and Home Minister to deliver results. It’s time to put the foot down and clear the air,” he stated.
