The Navratri is all set to begin from 26 September 2022, for the month of Sharad Navratri. It is mostly celebrated by Hindus in who they worship the nine avatars of Goddess Durga. This festivity goes on for nine long days. The devotees fast on these days to seek blessings from the goddesses. There are many variations when you do fast on Navratri. Some people take only water whereas others eat food while some eat a meal per day for consecutive nine days.

During Navratri, certain food items should be avoided. So, here is a full list of what people on fast can consume for nine days and also what should be completely avoided by them.

Fruits and Vegetables

There are no such restrictions related to fruits because you can eat every type of fruit in Navratri. Talking about the vegetables, sweet potato, potatoes, lemon, pumpkin, spinach, tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers can be eaten.

Flour and Grains

Regular rice and wheat are not allowed to be eaten when you are keeping fast. Either Kuttu Ka Atta or Singhare ka atta should be used while preparing for the meal during Navratri. Instead of rice, people can go for sabudana kheer, vadas, etc.

Spices

The very important point that should be kept in mind is that normal table salt should never be used while preparing the food for fast during Navratri. Apart from table salt, all other spices can be used in the food.

Apart from this, all types of food items containing preservatives should be avoided. Devotees should keep in mind that there are no restrictions on dairy products as well, only food containing garlic and onion should be avoided. Just stick to all these things that you can eat fast during Navratri. Navratri is also a great way of detoxifying your body.
