Punjab’s dense fog continues to present clear danger to drivers in the state. The Delhi-Amritsar Highway bore witness to 3 accidents all within a few kilometers of each other. According to sources, 4-5 vehicles collided with the canter on the bridge in Khanna, Ludhiana. Meanwhile, another accident occurred a few paces back where 3-4 cars collided with a truck due to low visibility. This morning another accident was reported at Gurudwara Baba Naudh Singh in Beas on the Highway wherein a Punjab Roadways bus overturned and fell off a bridge. Fortunately, no casualties were incurred in either of these accidents.

According to reports, around 20 vehicles collided with each other amidst this slew of accidents. The cause is being reported to be very thick and heavy fog. One accident is reported to be near Doraha on Delhi-Amritsar National Highway in Khanna, Punjab. Fortunately, no one was killed in the accidents but vehicles were reported to be heavily damaged. First of all, 4-5 vehicles collided with the canter on the bridge. When the police started removing the damaged vehicles, within a few seconds two more accidents occurred.

A few paces behind, about 3-4 cars collided with a truck and no fatalities were reported once again. A major accident also occurred due to dense fog this morning. A Punjab Roadways Patti Depot bus which was going to Amritsar from Patti in the morning, went down the drain bridge near Gurdwara Baba Naudh Singh's Samadh near Amritsar Road. A major tragedy could have occurred due to the standing water in the drain, but thankfully, the people standing at the spot pulled out the passenger and the driver safely. No casualties were incurred.

Numerous alerts and advisories have been issued by the Meteorological Department regarding the dense fog in Punjab which were vindicated by this event today. The police appeals the general public to drive very carefully and slowly in the heavy fog and to keep their fog-lights on during travel.
