NEP 1st year Anniversary: 14 engineering colleges to offer education in 5 languages, says PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi today addressed the nation on the completion of one year of the new National Education Policy (NEP).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated everyone on the completion of one year of the New Education Policy and said even as Covid changed the entire education scenario, students adapted to online education easily. 

 

He addressed the nation via video conferencing in which he said, "Our youth have a new enthusiasm, they are ready for change. Covid changed the entire education scenario but students have adapted to online education easily.”

 

He lauded the efforts of officials and stakeholders and said, "Even amid the pandemic, the policy is being implemented with help of suggestions of over lakhs of citizens, teachers, and autonomous bodies by deploying task force, in a phased manner."

 

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to announce engineering courses in five regional languages. “I am glad that 14 engineering colleges in 8 states are going to start its in 5 Indian languages - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Bengali. A tool has also been developed for translation of engineering course into 11 Indian languages,” he added.

 

"India's new National Education Policy is one of the major factors in 'mahayagna' of nation building," said PM Modi.

 

On Thursday, Modi also launched the National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR) and National Education Technology Forum (NETF). He launched multiple initiatives in the education sector, including the academic bank of credit that will provide multiple entries and exit options for students in higher education besides first-year engineering programmes in regional languages and guidelines for internationalization of higher education.

The list of initiatives launched today also includes Vidya Pravesh, a three-month play-based school preparation module for Grade 1 students, Indian sign language as a subject at secondary level and NISHTHA 2.0, an integrated programme of teacher training designed by the NCERT.
