After Professor refuses to give an interview why he murdered his wife in a gruesome manner to Beth, the journalist comes up with her own case which she suspects that might be missing or in trouble by the unclear picture she received. Coming to the Vicar, Harry's attempt to shield Edgar in the church by hiding his pen-drive backfires, when his son's math teacher Janice Fife (Dolly Wells) finds out pedophile content in Edgar's flash drive. At first, Harry and his son Ben think that the pen drive contained normal adult film content, Janice states that the content was related to pedophiles and that either the Vicar or his son is involved in child abuse.

Ultimately, Janice was held captive by Harry so that he can prove his and his family's innocence, however, unexpected events took place which ultimately led to the arrest of the Vicar with the help of Professor Jefferson. One of the most horrifying aspects of Grieff's crime is that he beheaded his wife after death, and buried the head in a secret location. It's hoped that Grieff will give the family of his victim some closure by revealing its location, something he appears to have finally agreed to do in the Inside Man finale when he offers the location in exchange for a stay of execution. Keeping long things short, the Professor in the end reveal that he would discuss the murder of his wife with the Vicar who was arrested for keeping Janice captive. Furthermore, the Professor stated that he will reveal where did he keep her wife's head to Harry.

So, the answer is Inside Man Season 1 did not reveal why the Professor killed his wife, but it indeed gave a hint that Inside Man season 2 will be based on this.
