Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) handed over the case to the NIA.

The NIA had earlier booked suspended J&K Police DSP Davinder Singh under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Davinder Singh was caught while transporting two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists: Naveed Babu, Rafi Ahmed and a lawyer Irfan Ahmed in a vehicle to Jammu on January 11.

However, reports came from sources that DSP Davinder Singh and three other accused are continually interrogated in Jammu. Last week, the NIA had taken a two-week remand of Davinder Singh. While the anti-terror probe agency wanted to bring the suspended Jammu and Kashmir Police DSP Davinder Singh to Delhi, it changed its plan instead and continued interrogating him in Jammu.

Sources said that since Hizbul commander Naveed Babu and two others were caught by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam as Davinder was bringing them Jammu, the significant part of the investigation is based out of the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Yogesh Chander Modi also met Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and top officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Yogesh briefed Girish Chandra Murmu about important issues related to the internal security situation in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The DSP who was granted state police gallantry for the very same encounter was stripped off the medal after FIR was lodged against him in a terror case following his arrest in Jammu and Kashmir.
