Nine dead, three injured in landslide in Himachal’s Kinnaur, rescue ops on

Nine people lost their lives and three are injured after boulders rolled down due to a landslide in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

On Sunday, Himachal Pradesh witnessed yet another landslide incident on Chitkul road in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Till now, at least nine people are reported to be dead and three injured people are rescued. 

Reportedly, the victims were traveling from Chitkul to Sangla in a tempo and a massive piece of rocks fell on their vehicle. There were 11 people in the vehicle, including the driver. A person on the road was also injured in the incident.

The Basteri Bridge was also damaged because of the boulders crashing down at Sangla valley. Houses and plantations were also damaged because of the landslide.

The Kinnaur Police have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway.

 In a terrifying video, large chunks of rocks can be seen breaking off a mountain and rolling down into the valley below. The video shows a section of the bridge crumbling and plunging into a river after a boulder hits it.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur inquired about the incident from the District Administration of Kinnaur district. HP CM Jai Ram Thakur tweeted, “I spoke to Kinnaur district administration and inquired about the accident and gave them proper guidelines.

 The administration has started relief work at the spot and immediate relief is being provided to the affected. May the injured persons get a speedy recovery, I pray to God. Peace!”

As per Saju Ram Rana, Superintendent of Police, Kinnaur district, “Nine persons died, three injured after boulders roll downhill due to landslide in Kinnaur district. Batseri bridge was collapsed in the incident. Rescue team present at the spot.”

“All the 11 victims were tourists whose vehicle got hit by boulders,” said Saju Ram Rana, SP Kinnaur, adding the injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital.
