The reunion which will rule Bihar again in 7 years didn’t remain in the office for even half of its full five years term when it first fought the 2015 assembly elections together. Thanks to Nitish Kumar.

Nitish Kumar has a long history of switching sides over the due course of time in his long political career a quick revision of those moments:

1989 with RJD: In the early years of his politics Nitish Kumar backed Lalu Prasad Yadav as the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly.

1994 with Samata Party: Fall out with RJD and inclined with George Fernandes former Defence Minister.

1996 and BJP: Kumar’s longest instinct with any party remained with BJP 1996 was the year when the two first met. Nitish was even in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet at the center.

2003, the formation of Janata Dal-United: Samata Party was merged with Janta Dal of Sharad Yadav in alliance with BJP and formation of JDU with Nitish as the captain.

2005, CM of Bihar: JDU-BJP alliance came to power in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar-led JDU won the confidence motion in the state assembly with the Congress but resigned from the post of CM taking responsibility for the catastrophic loss in the 2014 General elections. In less than a year, Kumar was back as the chief minister, pushing out his rebel Jitan Ram Manjhi with support from the RJD and the Congress.

2015 with Mahagathbandhan: The Grand Alliance of the JDU, Congress, and RJD won the 2015 assembly polls, but collapsed in just two years over Lalu’s son and deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav’s name surfacing in a money laundering case.

2017 foes turned friends: After the split with the RJD-led alliance with JDU Kumar resigned as the chief minister and was back in the office in less than 24 hours with the saffron party’s support.

2022 and the realignment with RJD: In 8 years after snapping ties with BJP twice Nitish now looks full set to join hands with its 2015 coalition partner RJD and team including the Congress and the left fronts.
