The group of students also met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in connection with the sexual harassment case against Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty of National Law Institute University.  

The students had alleged that Professor Mohanty had sent obscene messages and video messages to the girl students on mobile.

In Bhopal, two girl students have filed a case of sexual harassment against Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty. The students allege that Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty used to send obscene messages to them on mobile. After heavy protests, Tapan Ranjan Mohanty resigned from the post of Professor on March 10 had resigned from this post. 

Police have registered a case against Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty, who resigned from the National Law Institute University (NLIU) on charges of sexual harassment.


On Thursday evening, the girl students filed a complaint against Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty at the Mahila Police Station that the professor used to send her obscene messages on her mobile.

In this case, Additional Commissioner of Police Sachin Atulkar said that on the complaint of the girl students, an FIR has been registered against Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty under Section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.  Atulkar said that the police investigation is going on on the complaint of the girl students and further action will be taken based on that.

It is to be known that the group of NLIU students had accused Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty of sexually harassing the girl students and was very vocal in this matter and demanded the resignation of the Professor, but Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty denies all the allegations against him.  Finally, a group of students 'surrounded' the professor on 10 March and forced him to resign.

In this case, the group of students had met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and demanded a strict investigation against Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty. The students had alleged that the professor had sent obscene messages and video messages to the girl students on mobile.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Nidhi Saxena had also investigated the allegations against Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty before filing the complaint of the girl students.

At the same time, Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty, while giving his side, said that he has resigned under the pressure of the students. After resigning, Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty wrote a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of the university saying that he wants to withdraw his resignation.

Along with this, Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty has also filed a case of harassing and threatening five students with the police in this regard. Police say that they are also investigating the complaint of Professor Tapan Ranjan Mohanty and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
