No clear winner for US Election, result declaration may take days

It’s a close race in major states of the US and an important part of the votes remain uncounted. It could take days or even longer for a clear result of the election to come out.

The US has become a battleground with no clear winner appearing in the US presidential election as of Tuesday night. President Donald Trump and Democratic contender Joe Biden each have secured seats in numerous significant states in early results. The world waited for the results holding breath as results around the country started flowing in, Biden was leading ahead of Trump by 238 to 213 electoral votes on Wednesday morning.

Pennsylvania and Michigan are both important voting constituencies that have not declared their tallies. Both Presidential candidates didn’t achieve the 270 electoral votes needed to win a position in the White House.

Biden was hopeful for an early decision defeating Trump, but most of his successes were concentrated in typically  Democratic-leaning states. While Trump was advancing in Florida, Ohio and Texas.

Both achieved close votes in most swing states. For which analysts estimate that could come down to the key states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Mail-in ballots were not processed in the upper Midwest (Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin) states mail-in until the day of the election, November 3.

Analysts predict that securing seats in the upper midwest alone would make  Biden win an Electoral College victory.

Digital and physical disorder in the polls were witnessed. Meanwhile, Trump supporters have warned of violence ahead of polls. As the vote count process moves ahead, fears of unrest continue to remain.

A day before the elections, Trump spoke about his doubt over the counting of ballots stating that the country was “entitled” to know who has won on the day of the vote.

“You have to have a date, and the date happens to be November 3,” he said during a visit to Republican National Committee offices in Arlington, Virginia. “And we should be entitled to know who won on November 3.”

Declaring himself the winner on early Wednesday morning, President Trump said he would request the supreme court to stop the counting of votes.

Addressing his supporters, Trump said he’ll go to the Supreme Court and said the vote count should stop so that “ballots are not discovered somewhere”. US media, however, warned that it is “unclear why” the president would do this.

Meanwhile, in a statement to supporters in Delaware, Biden said his campaign “feels good” in the place where he is now and assumes they are “on track to win this election.”

“We are going to have to be patient and wait until every vote is counted. It ain’t over until every ballot is counted,” Biden said.

The US will break records for voter turnout this presidential election as more than 100 million people came out to vote before election day.

Though Biden is leading in the national polls ahead of the election, the Democrats will have to win overwhelming votes in the key swing states to emerge as a victory. Both candidates were unable to secure maximum votes in the predictable states, as each triumphed in those won by their party’s candidate in 2016.

Trump has won Florida, Ohio, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Indiana, Wyoming, West Virginia, South Carolina, Idaho, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, Missouri, Iowa Montana, and 3 districts in Nebraska.

Biden acquired Arizona, Hawaii, Minnesota, Colorado, New Mexico, California, New Hampshire, Oregon, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Illinois, Delaware and Connecticut, as well as the District of Columbia.

To again be reelected as the president of America, Trump needs to win in the state of Florida where he went his way, winning 51% to 48%. As per a report in the US media, the president did well there, particularly in districts with a huge Latino population.

Counts in swing states of Georgia and North Carolina are currently favouring Trump but the tallies remain close.

In Georgia, important Democratic districts have not declared their results yet. Counting ballots has been discontinued in Fulton County until 8 AM EST, the Democrat-leaning district that includes Atlanta. This might delay final results for the entire state. Other states are dominated by Republican where counts remain close to call for a winner.

Key among those is Texas, which is usually called for Republicans as soon as polls close. Early on Wednesday morning, the state remains too close to call.

However, Biden’s team believes that there are other pathways to achieve victory. Other states could give Biden an advantage in comparison to 2016 numbers. Democrats are trusting Arizona, where Biden maintains a seven-point advantage over Trump. Additionally, results in cities in the states where Democrats are at an advantage will come later.

This could mean that initial counts show a lead for Trump that could sink as more votes are counted.
