Northern Indonesia affected by Philippines Earthquake; No Tsunami Warning issued

Philippines was rocked by a 7.2 richter earthquake earlier in the day

Jakata, Dec 29: The Philippines earthquake, which occured earlier in the day today, has affected the northern Celebes Island of Indonesia but there has been no warning of tsunami issued by the Indonesian meteorology and Geophysics Agency.

"This quake is not potential for tsunami in Indonesian territory," said Rahmat Triyono, head of the quake and tsunami department of the agency .

The tremors were moderately felt in North Maluku province of eastern Indonesia. There have been no casualties reported yet as per the last update.

A 7.1-magnitude quake struck off the Philippines island of Mindanao at 10:39 a.m. Jakarta time with a depth of 49 km.

Indonesia is also prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake-prone zone of the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire."
