Notting Hill Carnival in London which often breaks the internet and grabs global headlines, came under the scanner of social media for wrong reasons. Notting Hill Carnival 2023 was a two-day festival that took place in London from August 27, 2023 to August 28, 2023. For those who are unaware, Notting Hill Carnival is considered one of the best festivals worldwide in August. To celebrate the beautiful Caribbean communities of London, every year a vibrant carnival takes place bringing everyone together for a dance, live music, and a taste of the tropics. However, the 2023 Notting Hill Carnival has sparked multiple controversies and one of them is related to small children twerking during the festival.

While twerking is quite common among Caribbean communities, children doing such dance forms have angered Britishers on social media. In the viral Notting Hill Carnival twerking video, two children can be seen twerking while the Carvinal goes in full swing. Not only this, people participating in the Notting Hill Carnival also started dancing and twerking in from of the children, and seeing them the little ones started to imitate them. As a result, multiple users on social media outlined this and stated that children should not be allowed to participate in Notting Hill Carnival.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sir Mark Rowley, Metropolitan police commissioner was quoted by British media saying that most people had a “fantastic time”. However, the Met Chief also expressed concern over violent incidents committed by a “small number of very dangerous people”. Not only this, but the organisers of the Notting Hill carnival said they “deplore all acts of violence” after a number of stabbings at the festival on Monday. Notably, there were reportedly 275 arrests during the two days of the carnival, with 165 arrests on Monday for a range of offences including possession of offensive weapons, assaults on police officers, possession of drugs and sexual offences.
