Parsi New Year 2022, also known as Nowruz, is a religious festival that marks the first day of Farvardin, the first month of the Iranian solar/Zoroastrian calendar.

This day falls around March every year during the spring equinox. Google has created a colourful doodle with flowers, a musical instrument, bees and a caterpillar to mark the start of spring.

Nowruz is traditionally the Iranian or Persian New Year but is also celebrated in the Indian subcontinent by some groups such as Parsi, Kashmiri and Shia Muslims. Nowruz is one of the oldest holidays in the world, and it is about 3,000 years old in origin.

The date of Nowruz may vary from region to region, but the festival is celebrated over 13 days, marking the beginning of Farvardin, the first month of the solar Hijri calendar. This festival is known as a symbol of rebirth and affirmation of life in harmony with nature.

Usually, Nowruz is celebrated by cleaning the house along with buying and wearing new clothes to mark the beginning of the spring season. Family and friends also visit each other during the 13-day celebration of the Persian New Year.

One of the most common dishes prepared on Nowruz is samanu, a dish prepared using wheat germ. Vegetable pollo and a sweet dish called naan-e nokhodchi are also prepared with fish, while each region where Nowruz is celebrated has its food and sweets.

Although the festival is celebrated by some groups in many countries, Nowruz is celebrated most notably in Iran, Afghanistan, Albania, Uzbekistan and Iraqi Kurdistan. On this occasion, families often gather together and celebrate with singing and dancing at large parties.
