British-American Hollywood actress Olivia de Havilland dies at 104

Olivia de Havilland, who wasthe last surviving star of the iconic Oscar winning film "Gone with the Wind," has died aged 104.

Dame Olivia Mary de Havill, was a British-American actress and centenarian. The major works of her cinematic career spanned from 1935 to 1988. She appeared in 49 feature films, and was one of the leading actress of her time.

Olivia had the opportunity to star in some of the biggest Hollywood movies of he time but many would argue that it was Oscar winning film "Gone with the Wind," that truly cemented her place in "Hollywood folklore".

Gone with the Wind had its world premiere in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 15, 1939, and was well received. Many leading publications of her time wrote that de Havilland's character in the movie- Melanie "is a gracious, dignified, tender gem of characterization". She had also been called"a standout" for her role in this film. The film won 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and because of her role de Havilland received her first nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

The film along with her role became such an icon that it was played and replayed every year in movie theaters all across the United States.

Olivia was also a part of various other memorable movies such as "The Adventures Of Robin Hood". She later went on to win Oscars for he role and performance in the films "To Each His Own" and "The Heiress" respectively.

Olivia lived in Paris since 1960 and rarely attended public functions after her "official retirement from Show-business".
