Punjab on Tuesday observed 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple and hundreds of devotees arrived at the holy place for the ongoing Akhand Path at Shri Akal Takht Sahib. Following the conclusion of Akhand Path, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh in his address to the community appealed for 'Sikh unity'. However, during this 'pro-Khalistani' slogans were also chanted and posters of Bhindranwale in hand were also flashed by a group of people. Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh in his address said that if all the Sikhs get together, they can make the government bow down. The story of 1984 makes us stronger. The more we are reminded of 1984, the stronger we are.

During the event, the families of the Sikhs who were killed during the Blue Star operation were also honoured. Sikh devotees started gathering on Tuesday morning. While holding pictures of the Blue Star operation in 1984, some were peacefully holding posters of the demand for Khalistan. It is pertinent to mention here that the government had beefed up security outside Golden Temple due to Operation Blue Star anniversary. As a result, police, commandos, and para-military forces were stationed outside the Golden Temple. At the same time, reports suggest that security officials in civil dress were also present inside the Golden Temple.

Apart from this, Sangrur MP Simranjit Singh Mann also reached the Golden Temple and held talks with Khalistani supporters. Simranjit Singh Mann inspired the youth to make maximum votes for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections which are going to be held after 12 years. Reports suggest that Simranjit Mann said that taking Khalistan would not be a big deal if his party SGPC wins the elections.
