Oppenheimer: Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie's link with the Bhagavad Gita explained

For the unversed, Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie Oppenheimer has a vital connection with the Hindu sacred book The Bhagavad Gita.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan is back with yet another masterpiece as his upcoming movie's teaser and the official poster were released on Thursday. Titled 'Oppenheimer', Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie has a mega star-cast including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, and more. Peaky Blinders fame actor Cillian Murphy will be playing theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the director of the Manhattan Project and the 'father of the atomic bomb.' Now, for the unversed, Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie Oppenheimer has a vital connection with the Hindu sacred book The Bhagavad Gita.

Oppenheimer is based on Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography 'American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.' Although Nolan's movies create buzz worldwide, his movie Oppenheimer Bhagavad Gita link has raised the eyebrows of fans across India. Notably, Nolan's upcoming movie Oppenheimer will focus on an American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was widely influenced by the Hindu sacred book Bhagavad Gita. 

As per reports, Oppenheimer has memorized and deeply understood the core value of the Bhagavad Gita. Moreover, Oppenheimer used to keep a copy of the Hindu Sacred book by his work desk. Furthermore, it is also said that Oppenheimer used to gift the English-translated version of the Bhagavad Gita to his colleagues and friends. Oppenheimer was so influenced by the Hindu Sacred book Bhagavad Gita that he learned Sanskrit in 1933 and first read the Gita in the original language.


Oppenheimer's logic and philosophy behind the creation of the Atomic Bomb can be traced to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. In fact, after the successful test of the Atomic bomb in the Trinity Test in Mexico, Oppenheimer used the quote from the Bhagavad Gita. He used Lord Krishna's quote when he told Arjuna in the Gita, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

As per the official poster, Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer will hit theaters worldwide on July 21, 2023. In the fiery poster,  Cillian Murphy could be seen as J. Robert Oppenheimer, taking a walk in the cloud of fire and smoke. Furthermore, the movie's poster tagline says, 'the world changes forever'.
