Oscars 2021: Jallikattu out from Best International Feature Film category, Bittu still remains in 9 categories shortlist films

The selection was to be done for the competition from 1 October 2019 to 31 December 2020.

Jallikattu the official entry sent by India in the race for the 93rd Academy Awards did not succeed. The Academy has released a list of shortlisted films in the race for the award. This includes Karisma Dev Dubey's Bittu live-action short film. The announcement of the final nomination will take place on 15 March. While the award ceremony will be held on 25 April. The selection was to be done for the competition from 1 October 2019 to 31 December 2020. The Oscars are competing between films from 93 countries.

Bittu remains in the race

Bittu is a story of friendship made under the direction of Karishma Dev Dubey. In which the friendship of two school-going children is told. The film has been screened in 18 film festivals around the world. Director Lijo Jose Pelissery's Malayalam film Jallikattu was the official entry from India.

The race for the Oscars also included Natkhat, Shameless, Soorarai Pottru. Although the list of Academy Awards nominees has not been made yet, Surarai is present in the screening room of Potru Academy. The film will stake its claim in the general category such as Best Actor, Actress, Director, Writer, and Original Score category. You will be able to know about them only after voting.

In 2019, Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy was officially selected for the 92nd Academy Awards for 2020. Earlier, Rima Das's Village Rockstars, Amit Masurkar's Newton, Vetri Maran's Visaranai, and Chaitanya Tamhane's court have also been sent in the Foreign Language category. However, so far no Indian film has won an Oscar in this category.
