Over 100 farmers are missing who claims to be participants of a tractor parade on Republic day, January 26. Farmers are protesting against the contentious farm laws at the borders for more than two months now. The 11 rounds of talks have remained inconclusive. However, Prime Minister after breaking his silence said that the offer made to the farmers still stands but farmers demand repeal of laws.

According to Punjab Human Rights Orgnisation (PHRO) more than 100 farmers who went to participate in the tractor parade on Republic day were missing. PHRO in collaboration with Khalra Mission stated that they would give free legal aid to the family of those who are claimed to be missing.

Activist Sarabjit Singh Verka was quoted by The Tribue as saying, “It appears the police deliberately led the farmers to the Red Fort. A ruckus was created when the Nishan Sahib was hoisted there. This cannot be an offence. The Tricolour was not touched. Most protesters were illegally detained on the spot. Since then, their whereabouts are not known.”

Legal aid was also offered by lawyers under the banner of Panthic Talmel Sangathan (PTS). Jathedar Giani Harpree Singh, Akal Takth said, “Nishan Sahib is the symbol of the Sikh identity. Hoisting the flag does not constitute an offence.” His stand comes at a time when the situation at the border is still tense and the police has perhaps registered FIRs on farmers due to the incident happened at Red fort.

According to Manjinder Singh Sirsa, over 11 farmers from alone Moga village are missing. Although, as per some reports, some missing farmers were taken to Tihar jail.
