The tension between India and Pakistan has risen following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir - which took place on April 22. The attack on tourists in Pahalgam has surely caused increased vigilance across the borders of both countries, but it also has ignited the fire among the general public.
An example of public anger was seen in the village of Mahwa in Punjab, which shares its borders with Pakistan. The residents and citizens of the region have clearly and boldly announced that they stood firm with the central government of India.
During a conversation with the media personnel, the villagers were quoted saying, “This time, the Indian government must teach Pakistan a tough lesson. Every time Pakistan disrupts peace, we continue to advocate for dialogue. How long will this go on?”
Furthermore, the residents also outlined, “Whenever an attack or infiltration happens, it’s always the border villages of Punjab that suffer first — fear, displacement, loss — we endure it all,” while mentioning their previous experience during such tense situations between the countries.
Apart from this, an elderly farmer said, “Whenever an attack or infiltration happens, it’s always the border villages of Punjab that suffer first — fear, displacement, loss — we endure it all.”
In addition to this, some residents also blamed Pakistan for unethical activities across the jungles near the border areas.
Now, following such a cruel and inhumane act, the people of the village are expecting a strong and firm step by the government of Punjab and India so that such activities would stop.
