In accordance with the directives issued by Honourable Punjab Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant Mann and DGP Punjab Shri Gaurav Yadav for the purpose of their ongoing war against drugs, the Pathankot Police have apprehended two Rajasthan based opium smugglers and seized 3.02 kg opium from their possession.

Divulging details to press, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that Pathankot Police had been relentlessly working to curb the menace of drug smuggling in the area. The police had received a tip-off that two smugglers would be carrying opium from Rajasthan to Pathankot to sell contraband to their customers near Malakpur Adda Pathankot and acted on it swiftly. A police team led by SI Surinder Singh incharge CIA Pathankot under the supervision of DSP(D) Ravinder Kumar Ruby was immediately dispatched to apprehend them. After conducting a thorough search, the police team recovered 3.02 kg of opium from the arrested individuals.

A case has been filed at police station,Sujanpur, citing FIR No. 175 dated 27th December 2022, against the smugglers under Section 18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Upon preliminary investigation of the accused, it has been revealed that they had brought contraband from Rajasthan for the purpose of selling it to customers at an inflated price. SSP Khakh added that the apprehended individuals would be produced before the judiciary and a request for their remand would be made in order to further discover their supply network. Moreover, police have initiated an inquiry to recognise the origin of the opium and to apprehend any other allies implicated in the unlawful activity.

This major catch is the result of the relentless efforts of Pathankot Police to ensure the safety of the citizens of the city. The Pathankot Police is striving to create a safe and healthy environment and will continue to take stringent action against those involved in criminal activities.

“We appeal to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police, ”said SSP Khakh.
