Pathankot Police destroy seized contraband worth several crores

The disposal of the stocks will definitely reduce the availability of these drugs in the market.

The Pathankot police on Friday destroyed drugs seized under NDPS Act by various police stations of the district.

In a press release, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that the drugs seized were destroyed in a fire amid the premises of Khanna Paper mill incinerators in Amritsar. He said that the strict protocol was followed by taking permission from courts for the destruction of case property. The case property seized in 56 cases of NDPS Act in district Pathankot disposed of in his presence along with committee members SP investigation Harpal Singh and DSP Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa.

The contrabands were actually inspected and weighted by the committee. The whole process was video graphed and supervised by the drug disposal committee. The committee supervised the process of destruction to the extent that these seized drugs do not get into re-circulation in the market. The disposal of the stocks will definitely reduce the availability of these drugs in the market.

SSP said that the destroyed drugs included 1.295 kg charas, 882 Kg-330-gram poppy husk, 19 Kg. 215-gram intoxicant powder, 54-gram heroin and 100 intoxicant capsules. He added that Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav had given clear instructions to wage this war on drugs until completely wiped out. He said that special checking points were set up in the roads connecting with Jammu and Kashmir to keep close vigil as the route was being used by drug smugglers to push drugs in the state.

In the past 2 months Pathankot police is trying hard to cut the supply chain of drugs coming from J & K to Punjab . Pathankot police registered have registered 63 cases and arrested 96 accused & recovered Poppy husk 555.60 kg, Charas 3.57 kg, Heroin 453 gm, Intoxicant powder 185 gm, Opium 40gm & Intoxicant capsule 100 and impounded 06 Trucks, 07 cars & 14 two wheeler's continuing its fight against drugs.

Khakh said that he wanted to take this opportunity to reaffirm his resolve in this war and nobody related to the drug trade will be spared. Strong legal action will be initiated against anyone indulging in the drugs trade.
