District identifies 48 cold chain points, 15 session sites, 289 vaccinators, besides, in First Phase about 8800 healthcare workers registered for vaccination

To ensure the smooth implementation of the COVID Vaccination roll out, a mock drill planned by Ministry of Health and Family welfare (MOHFW) in expanded phase of DRY RUN, exercised successfully in Patiala district at three sites (Rajindra Hospital, Sadbhavna Medical and Heart Institute and CHC Shutrana) today.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman District Task force, Mr. Kumar Amit said that the dry run exercised end to end testing of COVID-19 vaccination to identify challenges and guide way forward prior to actual implementation; to provide confidence to program managers at various levels and to monitor and review the preparedness at the district and block level.

All activities starting from beneficiary data upload, session site allocation (microplanning), session site management (with test beneficiaries) to reporting and evening debriefing were covered in this two-day dry run to execute the nearest possible simulation of the actual day, he added further.

Dr. Preeti Yadav, ADC (D) alongwith Mrs. Surbhi Malik, COVID Incharge, Rajindra Hospital,  while reviewing the dry run conducted at Rajindra Hospital, said that Patiala district is fully geared up for the smooth implementation of COVID Vaccine after its rolling out.

Elaborating the arrangements done in the district, she added that district Patiala has done cold chain assessment and identified 48 cold chain points, 15 session sites, 289 Vaccinators besides registration of 8800 health care workers for phase 1 vaccination.

Civil Surgeon, Dr. Satinder Pal Singh, said that a total of 25 bebeficiarues were called at each site from the registered data. They were screened at entry points, matched their identification with registered data. As per part of dry run, an observation room was also arranged to keep the beneficiary there under monitoring for half an hour after administering vaccine.

UNDP Project Officer (Operations), Meenakshi Deol, said that the vaccine is planned to be rolled out on phased manner with priority groups- Healthcare worker, Frontline workers, Elderly and Population with comorbidities.

All beneficiaries are to be pre-registered on CoWIN portal. Photo ID will be required for same.

Along with State vaccine store three Regional vaccine stores have been created in Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Ferozepur.

Similarly, 1.5 lakh healthcare workers including both from private and public facilities have already been uploaded on the COWIN portal.

Others who contributed to make dry run successful at Rajindra Hospital included, Principal Dr. Rajan Singla, Medical Superintendent Dr. H S Rekhy and Vice Principal Dr. R P S Sibia besides other medical and paramedic staff.
