75% cases of deaths in patients aged 60 yrs and above, 83% have more than one disease: Union Health Ministry

The ministry also said that of the coronavirus deaths in the country, 83 per cent cases have been reported to have co-morbidities i.e. patients with multiple diseases.

Addressing the media in the routine press conference, the Union Health Ministry said that 75.3 per cent of the Covid-19 deaths in India have been recorded in those who are 60 years of age and above.

The ministry also said that of the coronavirus deaths in the country, 83 per cent cases have been reported to have co-morbidities i.e. patients with multiple diseases. 

Giving an age-wise analysis, Lav Agarwal, Health ministry joint secretary, said that 14.4 per cent deaths have been reported in the age group of 0-45 years. He said that 10.3 per cent coronavirus deaths have been reported in the age group of 45-60 years, 33.1 per cent in those who fall under the age bracket of 60-75 years and lastly he said that 42.2 per cent deaths are reported in the age group of 75 years and above.

The health ministry said that, to date, India has reported a total of 14,378 positive cases of Covid-19, out of which, 4,291 are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat event.

India has reported 991 fresh Covid-19 cases, 43 deaths in the last 24 hours, Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said.

The Covid-19 death toll in India has now reached 480.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,992 Covid-19 patients across the country have cured, which has taken the overall recovery percentage to somewhere around 13.85 per cent, the health ministry informed.
