PM Modi attends function on the eve of Guru Nanak Jayanti at the official residence of Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura

The event convened at Iqbal Singh Lalpura's residence will also be marked by a series of other events on the auspicious eve of 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended an event on the eve of the 553rd birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji earlier today. The pious occasion was convened by Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman National Commission of Minorities at his official Lodhi State-based apartment.

The gracious occasion was marked with great zeal and enthusiasm by hundreds of devotees. Several dignitaries were also present at the event which will also mark a series of other events including Kirtan & Ardaas followed by Guru Ka Langar. The auspicious occasion held at the official residence of Sardar Lalpura also saw the footfall of several prominent Sikh leaders from across the country.

Who is Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura?

Iqbal Singh Lalpura is one of the greatest leaders and scholars. He is the first Sikh to be chosen by BJP for its parliamentary board. He has written 14 books so far. His books are taught at the University of Lahore. The books that he has written unites people of all religion as one.

He was also part of the three-member team formed to arrest Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. He played an important role in the negotiations with Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale on behalf of the government and his arrest.

Why BJP chose Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura '1st Sikh' face in its parliamentary committee?

Iqbal Singh Lalpura has received many honors for his work in the field of police and literature. President's Police Medal, Shiromani Sikh Literary Award, and Sikh Scholar Award are some of his prominent recognitions.

As he has contributed immensely to the working of government and especially intelligence, it is a great decision to give him a seat on the Parliamentary Board of BJP.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been dropped from the reconstituted BJP Parliamentary Board.

Eleven members of the reconstituted Parliamentary Board are party President Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and Sarbananda Sonowal, former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, OBC Morcha National President K Laxman, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Sudha Yadav, Satyanarayan Jatia and national general secretary (organization) B L Santhosh.
