PM-Narendra-Modi MSP-To-Stay Farm-Laws

In an hour-long address to the farmers of Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly backed the new agriculture laws that have triggered massive farmers protest near the national capital since late November. He said he is willing to discuss every issue with the farmers and available listen to their concerns.

Addressing farmers In Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi said, "If anyone has any concerns, then with our heads bowed, our hands folded, with humility, we are willing to allay their fears.”

He added that the talk about Minimum Support Prices (MSP) going away with the new farm laws "is the biggest lie ever".

PM Modi said agricultural reforms were discussed for over two decades by every government assuring the farmers across the country that the MSP will stay. Emphasising on the government’s commitment on MSP the PM said,  “Had we wanted to do away with MSP, why would we implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission? The laws came into force a few months ago. But the MSP system is continuing. There can be a no bigger lie, bigger conspiracy than this that we are abolishing MSP. This system will not end.”

PM said, "These laws were not brought in overnight. In the past 22 years, every government, state has discussed these in detail. Farmer groups, agricultural experts, economists, scientists and progressive farmers have called for reforms. Parties opposing these laws today promised these reforms in their manifestos.”

Taking a swipe towards the opposition parties asked them to stop misleading the farmers to gain back the political ground. He said, "These parties are in pain today. They are asking themselves, what we couldn't do, how could Modi do? Why should he get credit? My reply to them is - you keep the credit. Even I will give credit to your manifestos. I don't want credit. I want farmers' lives to improve. Stop misleading farmers."

“Farmers of India can’t be left behind while other countries are moving towards new technologies”, said Modi on emphasizing the need of the new farm laws.
