PM Modi to visit 3-vaccine manufacturing centres today to review COVID-19 vaccine progress

PM Modi will begin his three-city tour by first visiting Zydus Cadila's plant near Ahmedabad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit India's top three vaccine manufacturing centres today to personally evaluate the development of the coronavirus vaccine and the manufacturing process. 

The PMO in a statement said the visit to the vaccine development centre to help Modi to get a "first-hand perspective of the preparations, challenges and roadmap in India's endeavour to vaccinate its citizens".

According to the PM’s schedule, he will start his three-city vaccine journey by first visiting pharma company Zydus Cadila's plant near Ahmedabad. PM Modi landed at the Ahmedabad airport before 9.30 am and moved towards Zydus Cadila's plant near the city.  

The Zydus Cadila plant is situated in the Changodar industrial area, 20 km away from Ahmedabad and will be there for an hour. Zydus has said that the Phase I trials of its Covid-19 vaccine - ZyCoV-D is completed and second phase trials have begun in August. 

PM Modi will then rush to Pune’s Serum Institute of India (SII), which in partnership with global pharma giant AstraZeneca and Oxford University is producing a COVID-19 vaccine. During the visit to SII, Modi will be reviewing the status of the vaccine, including the date of its launch, production and distribution mechanisms.  

Next PM Modi, will fly to Hyderabad by 3.40 pm to visit Bharat BioTech company, which is developing India’s indigenous vaccine - Covaxin. The prime minister will visit the vaccine centre in between 4 and 5 pm, he will fly out from Bharat Biotech at 5:40 pm. 

"PM will embark on a 3-city visit to personally review the vaccine development and manufacturing process. He will visit the Zydus Biotech Park in Ahmedabad, Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad and Serum Institute of India in Pune," the PMO tweeted.

It further added, "As India enters a decisive phase of the fight against COVID-19, PM Narendra Modi's visit to these facilities and discussions with the scientists will help him get a first-hand perspective of the preparations, challenges and roadmap in India's endeavour to vaccinate its citizens.”
