
Agartala: Two police officers of Jatrapur police station at Sonamura in Sepahijala district have been suspended on the charge of alleged involvement in drug smuggling activities.
Earlier, as many 15 police officials, including a Tripura Police Service Officer were suspended from the service, and five of them were arrested for their involvement in drug smuggling and cannabis dealing rackets.
According to reports, Sub-Inspector Dipankar Debnath and Head Constable Ratna Das were suspended yesterday after investigations revealed their involvement with the racket dealing contraband items. Police had seized as many as 768 cough syrup bottles from a place under Sonamura on January 25 last but the seizure list mentioned about 720 bottles.
Allegedly, the actual number of seized cough syrup bottles have not been mentioned in the seizure list. Investigations found the involvement of Debnath and Das behind the 'mismatch' in the list and accordingly these two personnel were suspended.
