A truck driver ran over two police personnel standing at the checkpoint in Dera Bassi, Mohali. Both of them were killed in the incident. The deceased have been identified as Hari Singh and Jaisalmer Singh. The police have taken their bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem. The driver has been arrested and the police have also taken the truck into their custody.
According to the information, at around 3:00 AM the police had set up a blockade on the Barwala Road in Dera Bassi. During this time, a speeding truck with Himachal number plates was seen coming from the wrong side. The police officers present at the checkpoint tried to stop the truck driver. But the driver ran the truck over the police personnel. The two policemen, Hari and Jaisalmer Singh, died in the accident.
According to reports, the truck driver was running away after hitting a car. Both the police personnel were posted as home guards at Dera Bassi police station.
