New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Nagaland Chief Neiphiu Rio has condemned the 'barbaric attack' on a Sunday Mass in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district and urged his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis to urgently take actions against the perpetrators.

"I strongly condemn the barbaric attack on a Sunday Mass in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, by a mob. Attacking innocent people who gathered for a congregational prayer is a dastardly act," Mr Rio tweeted.

"I urge Hon'ble CM Fadnavis to act against the perpetrators," he wrote in another tweet.

MR Rio is a leader of regional outfit Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland and is an ally of the BJP.

Reports said a group of people attending Sunday prayers in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district was attacked by unidentified people, leaving 12 of them injured.

The congregation was reportedly attacked with swords, iron rods and bottles at the New Life Fellowship Church at Kowad in Kolhapur district. Those who suffered injuries were taken to a nearby hospital.

The police were verifying CCTV footage and also have formed five teams to look for the accused, reports said.
