Political discord in Punjab has reached the religion of officers instead of their ability. The Congress has raised concerns about the absence of a Sikh in Punjab's top three positions, Chief Secretary (CS), Director General of Police (DGP), and Advocate General (AG). All India Kisan Congress chairman and MLA Sukhpal Khaira surrounded the government over this. On the other hand, under the guise of Khaira, the BJP surrounded the Congress.

BJP spokesperson Subhash Sharma asked why no Hindu became CM in Punjab from 1966 till today. He sought an answer from Sukhpal Khaira on this. At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party or CM Bhagwant Mann has not given any reaction on this.

MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira tweeted, "We’ll believe India is a secular country and all sections of society must be given due representation but unfortunately @ArvindKejriwal run @BhagwantMann govt has not accommodated even one deserving sikh officer to top three positions i:e CS,DGP or AG ? Aren’t they competent?"

BJP's State General Secretary, Subhash Sharma, while replying MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, tweeted, "Congress always tried to divide Hindu-Sikh. @Sukhpalkhaira Ji has objected that CS, DGP, AG are Hindu. His question is, is no Sikh officer capable? I want to ask him that since 1966 till now not a single Hindu became CM in Punjab, was any Hindu leader capable or not?

Earlier, in the second Chief Minister term of Captain Amarinder Singh, Dinkar Gupta and Vini Mahajan i.e. both Hindu officers were appointed as DGP and Chief Secretary. Atul Nanda was the Advocate General at that time. Now Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua, DGP Gaurav Yadav have been appointed in the AAP government. Advocate Vinod Ghai is being appointed as the new AG.

Earlier there was no controversy over the religion of the officers. The Congress party has started a new contoversy by giving this statement.

During the Punjab assembly elections, there was a lot of ruckus in the Congress regarding the CM face. Rahul Gandhi wanted Sunil Jakhar to be the Chief Minister. However, Ambika Soni reportedly opposed it. She got the decision changed by talking about the Sikh state-Sikh CM. After this, Jakhar raised this issue a lot.
