Watch: People treated as animals in Agra quarantine centre, food and water tossed from outside shut gates

Agra, Uttar Pradesh authorities handling coronavirus outbreak is now under scanner after a video of patients at a quarantine facility thrive to attain basic amenities--food and water--from the behind the locked gates of an institute. The video is doing rounds on the internet.

In the video clip, a man in blue protective gear can be seen tossing packets of biscuit near the gate as inmates on other side gather to take them.

The video was shot at the Sharda Group of Institutions, which has been transformed into a quarantine facility by the local administration.

From the video, it can be signified that the lives of people living under quarantine is not that easy. People are rushing to grab water bottles kept outside the gates, ignoring all norms of social distancing.

A woman can also be heard saying, “This is what is being done to people who have been isolated. We were told we will get medical check-ups but nothing of that sort has happened. Everyone—doctors and administration people—is being negligent. There are no proper arrangements for food and water."

When Agra District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh was inquired on the matter by an eminent news agency, he said, they held inspection at the quarantine centre at Sharda Group of Institutions after receiving complaints about food distribution.

“The top officials of the team have been asked to look into the matter and fix the responsibilities. The team has been directed to identify the loopholes and be more careful in rendering services at the Covid-19 quarantine centre,” Prabhu N Singh said.

The city of the Taj Mahal, which was praised for the ‘Agra model’ of containment, has reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh at 372.
