
Law student of Delhi University was not allowed to writeher exams in the second year. She was expecting. She was in the later stage ofpregnancy.
The results of her fourth, fifth and sixth semesters werewithheld. She continued the battle in the apex court. The Supreme Court onFriday came to her rescue and asked the Delhi University to declare her fifthsemester results.
A bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde and comprisingJustices A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian said, "The IA (interventionapplication) and the SLP (special leave petition) are disposed of, directingthe university to declare the fifth semester supplementary examination resultsof the petitioner and issue the provisional degree along with necessarycertificates, provided she had passed the examinations, subject to thepetitioner clearing the other formalities."
Ankita Meena joined the three year LLB course in the Facultyof Law, Delhi University in August 2016. She was already married for about fivemonths when she joined the course. First three semesters were completed by herwithout any hurdles but in the fourth semester, she delivered a baby in 2018and later on the teachers association went on a strike in mid March. Itaffected her classes.
Court had declined to pass an order to allow her sit inthe exams just one hour prior to the commencement of the exam in May 2018.However, the court allowed to her attend classes in October 2018 on her ownrisk and after completing all formalities.
The court had directed the university to allow her attendthe classes of sixth semester as per its October 2018 order in 2019. In July2020, the court ordered her results for fourth and sixth semesters be declared.Following these orders, Meena appeared for fourth, fifth and sixth semesterexams.
Now the court has ordered to allow fifth semester resultsas she has completed the course in entirety.
