Following a deadly attack on former US President Donald Trump, current President Joe Biden addressed the nation for the second time today. Speaking at 6 a.m. IST, Biden strongly condemned the violence. He underlined that America cannot carry on down this violent path while pointing out the suffering that such incidents have caused the country in the past. Amidst these politically turbulent times, he appealed for calm.
Biden expressed his condolences to the family of a civilian killed during the attack, referring to him as a hero. The attack on former President Trump occurred on Saturday, as per American time, and on Sunday morning, according to Indian time, during an election rally in Butler. A salted rifle bullet barely missed Trump's ear, giving him a narrow escape. After identifying the attacker as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, the Secret Service snipers assigned to Trump's protection quickly neutralized him. Sadly, a civilian was also killed in the crossfire.
Nearly 18 hours after the attack, Biden delivered his first address to the nation. The address, which took place late at night on July 15 IST, reassured the public that he had spoken with Trump and emphasized that there is no place for violence in America. He said that since the investigation is still in its early phases, one should not assume anything about the motivation. In his appeal, Biden urged people to help the Secret Service and FBI with their investigations.
Biden also highlighted the importance of providing enhanced security for Trump. He instructed the Director of the Secret Service to implement the best possible security measures for the upcoming Republican National Convention.
