Lucknow: Priyanka Gandhi is expected to take charge as All India Congress Committee's (AICC) General Secretary of eastern Uttar Pradesh next week at a grand event in Lucknow.
On January 23, the Congress party announced Priyanka entry into politics by giving her the post. The party's move is being touted as the grand old party trump card for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, Priyanka induction did not go down well with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who said the Congress is promoting “dynastic politics”.
Taking a jibe at Rahul, BJP leader Sambit Patra said that the Congress chief was not being able to handle “leadership” role alone and hence has brought Priyanka into active politics.
Actor and BJP MP Paresh Rawal also ridiculed the decision, tweeting, "Woh kehte hain ki ab humne apna trump card utara hain. Toh humein yeh poochhna hain, ki ab tak kyun joker se khel rahein the? (They say that now we have introduced our trump card. So I want to ask why were you playing with a joker so far?)."
Priyanka entry into politics was anticipated earlier too, however, she refuted the speculation calling it “conjuncture” and “baseless rumour ”.
Although Priyanka had earlier participated in the elections campaign for her mother Sonia Gandhi in Raibareli and brother Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, this is for the first time that she will be holding an official post in AICC.
